Updated Demolition List

July 16, 2008

The City of Cedar Rapids has completed a secondary assessment of properties to be demolished.  The original list of 41 properties has been reduced to 28 with four new buildings added.  These identified properties sustained extensive structural damage and have been determined to pose an immediate threat to public health, safety, or welfare. 

A competitive bid process for the demolition contract was initiated on Friday, July 11th, with submittals due Monday, July 21, 2008 by 3:00 p.m.  The bid documents and instructions can be accessed at www.cedar-rapids.org/purchasing/bids.asp.

Pursuant to state and local codes, the City of Cedar Rapids will demolish, remove, and dispose of the following structures beginning no sooner than July 24, 2008. 

Due to the extraordinary circumstances created by the flooding of June, 2008, the City of Cedar Rapids will attempt to inform the property owner by:

1. posting a notice on the subject building,
2. mailing a notice to the last known address of the property owner of record,
3. posting the list of addresses on the www.corridorrecovery.org website, and
4. publishing the list of addresses in the legal section of the Gazette at least three (3) days prior to demolition.

If additional properties are determined to pose an immediate threat to the public’s health, safety, or welfare, this notification process will be followed.
