Media Briefing Available on February 4
This week the City of Cedar Rapids is launching an interactive, online map of all of the properties affected by the Flood of 2008. The map is available on the City’s Web site for all citizens to access. To use the map, click on the Cedar Rapids Flood Recovery page and look for the “Interactive Map of Flood Affected Properties” link.
The “2008 Flood Viewer” map includes aerial photos and data about each flood-affected property’s status, age, its location in the designated flood management areas, whether it’s registered for a voluntary property acquisition, involvement in the JumpStart Rehabilitation Program, proposed locations of future permanent floodwalls and how the property was categorized during the2008 Americorps Vista Visual Survey. The interface provides multiple layers of information and several search options.
“We now have the technological infrastructure to provide this data in a format that anyone can use,” said City Manager Jim Prosser. “The 2008 Flood Viewer will be updated in real time as our databases are updated. This is fresh information available 24/7 for all our citizens.”
The City of Cedar Rapids Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Division is offering a media briefing for reporters who would like to learn how to use all of the features of the 2008 Flood Viewer.
