Voluntary Property Acquisition

The City is collecting information for the first step in the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) process. If you are interested in voluntarily allowing the City to acquire your property, you must complete a Voluntary Property Acquisition Interest Survey form. These surveys are available at:

• Contractor Certification Offices at Westdale Mall, 2600 Edgewood Road SW
• City Offices at AEGON Building, 3851 River Ridge Drive NE
• Call (319) 286-5041 to request a survey by mail

Funding for the program is limited. There is no guarantee that all interested properties will be included. Property owners should not rely on this program as part of their financial recovery plan.

Salvation Army Hosts Five Day Giveaway

The Cedar Rapids Salvation Army will reopen the doors at its distribution center for one week, August 11 - 15, to give away clothing and household items. The event will serve as a central point of distribution for the clothing and household goods that have been collected by area churches over the past two months. The location for the giveaway is the former EconoFoods grocery store at 1800 51st Street NE in Cedar Rapids.  The center will be open daily August 11 - 15 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The clothing is mostly new with some gently used pieces. Everything will be sorted by size, by seasonal category and by male/female, boy/girl, infant/toddler. Call 319-294-2207 for more information.

Flood Recovery Meetings Planned in Mount Vernon and Palo

The Linn County Board of Supervisors will host two informational flood recovery meetings for Linn County residents impacted by the flood:

• August 12, 7 p.m., Mount Vernon High School Commons, 525 Palisades Rd, Mount Vernon
• August 14, 7 p.m., Palo fire station, 506 Main St., Palo

The following organizations will give brief presentations and take questions: ISU Extension (Recovery and Rebuild), Horizons (Consumer Credit Counseling), Abbe Center (Project Recovery Iowa and how to help kids manage stress), Linn County Planning & Development (Permit Requirements for Rebuilding in the Flood Plain) and Linn County Public Health.

• River Corridor Redevelopment Plan - Let the City know how you want us to rebuild and reinvest in our community. Add your comments online at www.cedar-rapids.org. Look for the River Corridor Redevelopment Plan link under the Shortcuts for Citizens heading.
