Corridor Recovery is your connection to local organizations which recruit and manage volunteers. We’ve made some changes to this portion of our site to help you connect directly to the East Central Iowa Volunteer Center. This will allow you to find out quickly about the most up-to-date volunteer opportunities and receive information about things like upcoming events and training programs.

Individuals who would like to volunteer to help with flood recovery can sign-up online or call the Volunteer Center at (319) 540-4810.

Individual volunteers should register online to become part of the database. If you are interested in flood specific volunteer opportunities go to the East Central Iowa Volunteer Center listed under Agencies and you will find the latest flood related volunteer opportunities. If you are not able to find something that fits your interests, skills or time availability, please call the Volunteer Center for additional help connecting to an opportunity.

Volunteer Groups planning to join our rebuilding effort, should call the Volunteer Center at (319) 540-4810 to register your group.

Agencies and homeowners, who could use volunteer assistance, can call the same number, (319) 540-4810 for help getting started.

Americorps Vista

The flood relief will receive a huge boost in volunteer assistance due to the recruitment of up to 100 AmeriCorps Volunteer In Service To America (VISTA) summer associate and 15 yearlong AmeriCorps VISTA positions to assist various flood-recovery agencies and programs in Linn County.

The volunteers will be managed by Community Corrections Improvement Association, which currently oversees Central Cedar Rapids Weed & Seed AmeriCorps VISTA members. CCIA this weekend will partner with CorridorRecovery.org to define work for the AmeriCorps VISTA members that will be most beneficial to flood relief, including staffing of the Volunteer Reception Center and working on cleanup crews.

Summer associates will receive a living allowance ($833/month) and a educational award for college tuition or loans ($1,000 for eight weeks, $875 for seven weeks). The seven- to eight-week commitment must be completed by September 12. Yearlong members receive a monthly living allowance, an educational award of $4,724, and other benefits.

VISTA members may collect both unemployment insurance benefits and the living allowance.

An additional 100 summer associates and 15 yearlong members are being recruited for the Iowa City area. For more information email cr.vista@iowa.gov or visit http://www.vistacorridorrecovery.org/.
